The sentence The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog uses every letter of the English alphabet.
Sentences like this are called pangrams. This one has been used since the late 1800s to test typewriters, telegraph lines, fonts and keyboards.
Why is this true?
It is popular because it is short, easy to remember and makes sense. Perfect pangrams that use each letter exactly once exist too, but they are nonsense, like Mr Jock, TV quiz PhD, bags few lynx.
